After much deliberation, Squishy finally has a name. It is.....Oliver!
I picked Oliver, after Oliver Twist, because he is an orphan cat, and keeps looking up at me with those big scared eyes. "Please, Sir, can I have some more?". Plus, in the Disney version of Oliver, he was a cat! So there. Confession: I am still calling him Squishy though. To keep his self-respect when he gets older, and to save myself from a resentful cat (they know when you're taunting them!) he might as well have an official name, even if I don't call him by it.
Thank you to all of those who gave suggestions Some were good, some were...interesting. Here are some of my favorites that were considered, but didn't make it in the end.
Edward Scissorpaws - Because who doesn't like some comic relief?
Houdini - He kept disappearing on me.
Chicken - Suggested by my sister, because he was so scared. Perfectly ironic.
Napoleon - Because he is sure to be the dictator of my house one day.
Bambino - He's just a little baby! Plus, it would still sound fine when he grows up.
Sir Sleepsalot - Another comedic name.
Salem - After the sarcastic black cat on Sabrina the Teenage Witch
Pumpkin - He's a black Halloween cat!
He has been discovering many things lately, one being the TV. He runs out to watch whenever he hears it turn on, and sits, mesmerized and staring at it, exactly like in the photo below.
I know he's settling in by the way he runs out when I pour his food, instead of lurking suspiciously in the corner for 15 minutes. He has also decided that the curtains are a great thing to climb, and even more fun to hold in your mouth and swing from. Very safe. He is just a baby though...which is apparent by his late night/early morning activity.
The layout of my apartment is first the living room, then a long hallway along my bedroom leading to the kitchen. Apparently, running at top speed from one end of the apartment to the other, repeatedly at 6 a.m. is great fun! I wouldn't know. Then there's stairs. If you don't run up and down them at least 15 times in a row, you're missing out.
Basically, he's a hyper little terror, but mostly just adorable.
Pretty sure this has been the longest cat-related post ever. Too late to hide that I'm a crazy cat lady? Oh.
